What is a Linux cloud server?
What a Linux cloud server is
A Linux cloud server is a virtual machine with an operating system you administer. On Unbroker you choose a size, a region, and a Linux image. You log in as root. Unbroker generates a root password, and you can add an SSH public key at creation. The console shows one IPv4 address.
Linux cloud server hosting here means Unbroker runs that host and you run what is installed on it. The platform installs the image and shows power actions. It does not apply operating-system updates, supervise your processes, or graph CPU for the server. The server guide describes the same split.
It is a private Linux server in the sense that you administer the machine. It is not a Linux private cloud server in your own data center.
Linux images and regions
The included images are part of the flat monthly price, not an add-on. The catalogue covers Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CentOS Stream, and Fedora. The create request has to use one of the published image names. Windows and licensed panel images are refused.
Linux cloud servers are sold in European Union, US Central, US East, and US West. The monthly price of a size does not change with the region. A region outside that list is refused. Moving a machine later is a migration, not a toggle. The current list, including image names, is on Linux cloud server hosting.
How to pick a size
Start from the workload, not from a slogan. A CI runner, a Docker host, a small Kubernetes node, or a proxy needs the cores, memory, and disk that software already asks for. A web app that only needs Git deploys usually does not need this machine.
Each size has a fixed vCPU count, memory, and SSD. The price is that size for the month, in USD, excluding applicable taxes. Servers require Pro ($25 per month, with $25 of usage credit). The size is charged in full when you create the server and can draw on that credit. Usage above the credit is invoiced. Outbound traffic is unlimited under a fair-use policy and is not a separate overage. Deleting the server does not prorate the month already paid.
Current sizes from the pricing catalogue:
| Size | vCPU | RAM | Disk | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | 4 | 8 GB | 100 GB | $17.95 |
| M | 6 | 12 GB | 200 GB | $24.48 |
| L | 8 | 24 GB | 300 GB | $45.70 |
| XL | 12 | 48 GB | 400 GB | $81.60 |
| 2XL | 16 | 64 GB | 500 GB | $121.04 |
| 3XL | 18 | 96 GB | 600 GB | $159.94 |
Pricing shows the same figures. After the machine exists, you still choose updates, the firewall, and where copies of the disk go. There are no disk snapshots on this product.
VPS or a managed platform
A Linux cloud server is the VPS path: you operate Linux. Cloud Apps is the managed path: you connect a Git repository, and Unbroker builds and runs the service. App CPU and memory bill from the capacity you configure while replicas run, at $0.03 per vCPU-hour and $0.015 per configured GiB-hour.
Pick the Linux cloud server when you need root, a daemon, or packages that are not a platform service. Pick Cloud Apps when you want health checks, deployment history, and more than one replica without patching a host. Extra app replicas are not a failover pair for this virtual machine. The longer comparison is VPS vs PaaS.
What high availability does not mean here
A Linux cloud server is one virtual machine in one region. There is no automatic failover and no standby node, so this is not high availability Linux cloud servers. There is no private network between servers, no extra IPv4, and no IPv6 option on the product. Domains and managed TLS stay on Cloud Apps.
If the host or the region is unavailable, the server is unavailable until it returns. Plan for that before you put data only on that disk.
FAQ
What is a Linux cloud server?
On Unbroker it is one virtual machine with a Linux image, root login, and a fixed monthly price. You administer the operating system. The platform records the region, size, image, state, and IPv4 address.
Which Linux images can I install?
The create flow accepts the images listed on the Linux cloud server page, including Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CentOS Stream, and Fedora. Those images are part of the server price. An image outside the list is refused, including Windows.
Is a Linux cloud server highly available?
No. It is one virtual machine in one region, with no automatic failover and no standby. It is not high availability Linux cloud servers, and it is not a private network between machines.
When should I use Cloud Apps instead?
Use Cloud Apps when you want Git deploys and replica scaling without operating the host. Use a Linux cloud server when the software needs root, packages, or a process layout that is not a platform service.
